Our History

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Whitehouse, Westmoreland, Jamaica, lies the historic site of Culloden by the Sea, a place steeped in rich heritage and compelling stories of the past.

Once, Culloden stood as a flourishing sugar estate, its fields bustling with activity as workers toiled under the Caribbean sun. Over time, the estate transformed, embracing new endeavors such as cultivating sugarcane, pimento, managing pasturage, raising livestock, and harvesting precious logwood.

Throughout its storied history, Culloden by the Sea has been intertwined with the lives of individuals who left their mark upon its landscape. From William Tomlinson, who oversaw its early years, to the Archibald Campbell of Culloden Estate, who later stewarded its growth, as both owner and attorney.

But Culloden's story is not merely one of commerce and industry—it is also a tale of resilience and transformation. Today, the once-thriving estate has evolved into a private gated community, a sanctuary where the echoes of the past harmonize with the joys of the present.

The beach lots, once bustling ports during the colonial era, now host homes where the descendants of enslaved Africans, who once labored upon these shores, now enjoy the fruits of their ancestors' struggles. The hillside, once dedicated to sugar plantations and pastures, now offers a haven for families of diverse backgrounds, soaking up sunshine, savoring the sunset, and relishing in the breathtaking views.

Culloden by the Sea is more than just a place—it's a place to call home, where history meets modernity, and where every sunrise brings the promise of new beginnings. Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Culloden by the Sea, a sanctuary of peace, beauty, and endless possibilities.
